Exciting experiences for young Scouts to discover and explore the great outdoors.

Exciting Adventures

The best way to find out what you do best is to do it. Catch a fish. Ride a bike. Set up a tent. Build a Pinewood Derby® car. Shoot a bow and arrow. Cub Scouting offers boys and girls the opportunity to see and learn fun, new things that can’t be found anywhere else. Cub Scouts are at that magical age where everything is new and possible and, most important, fun. They build things. Play with purpose. Make friends and work together. The life lessons learned here not only transform today’s Cub Scouts into tomorrow’s Scouts BSA members but also help form a foundation to embrace opportunity and overcome obstacles in life.

Set up a tent, Hear and see the sounds and sites of nature, cook food on an open fire, learn to use a flint and steel, knot tying, lashing and good outdoor conduct. These are just a few of the fun things Cub Scouts learn and do when they get outside and camp.

Hiking is a core Cub Scout experience that instills a sense of adventure, teamwork, and an appreciation for the natural world. As Scouts explore trails and wilderness areas, they learn perseverance and build essential outdoor skills, all while strengthening their bond with fellow Scouts. It’s a journey that fosters confidence and a deep respect for the environment.

Fishing offers Cub Scouts a chance to connect with nature while honing patience, focus, and responsibility. As Scouts cast their lines and wait for a bite, they learn the value of persistence and experience the thrill of the catch. Fishing also encourages teamwork, as Scouts share tips and stories, fostering camaraderie and an appreciation for the beauty of outdoor life.

Archery empowers Cub Scouts to develop focus, discipline, and precision. As Scouts draw their bows and aim for the target, they build confidence and refine their concentration. Archery also promotes safety and respect, with experienced leaders guiding Scouts through proper technique and equipment handling. It’s a rewarding experience that blends skill, patience, and a sense of achievement.

BB guns, sling shots and pellet guns provide Cub Scouts with a safe and controlled introduction to marksmanship. Under the supervision of trained leaders, Scouts learn the fundamentals of safety, accuracy, and discipline. This activity fosters concentration and responsibility while offering an exciting and educational experience. Target shooting can be a gateway to developing respect for firearms and understanding the importance of following rules and safety protocols.

The Pinewood Derby is a thrilling Cub Scout tradition that combines creativity, engineering, and friendly competition. Scouts design and build their own miniature race cars from wood, honing skills like craftsmanship and problem-solving. On race day, they get to see their creations come to life on the track, experiencing the excitement of competition and the spirit of sportsmanship. It’s a memorable event that brings families together and celebrates ingenuity.

Cub Scouts is not just about activities; it’s about building character, leadership skills, and lifelong friendships. Through teamwork and shared adventures, Scouts learn the values of honesty, responsibility, and respect. Leadership opportunities in the Pack encourage them to step up, make decisions, and support their peers. Along the way, they form bonds with fellow Scouts that often last a lifetime, creating a supportive community that extends beyond scouting. It’s a journey of personal growth that lays a strong foundation for the future.

Service is at the heart of the Cub Scout experience, teaching Scouts the importance of giving back to their communities. Whether they’re collecting food for a local food bank, cleaning up a park, or visiting a senior center, Cub Scouts learn that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Through these service projects, they develop empathy, compassion, and a sense of civic duty, while understanding the value of helping others. It’s a powerful way to instill lifelong habits of generosity and community involvement.

STEM in Cub Scouts opens a world of discovery and innovation, encouraging Scouts to explore science, technology, engineering, and math through hands-on activities. From building rockets to conducting simple experiments, STEM fosters curiosity and problem-solving skills. These experiences inspire creativity and lay the groundwork for a deeper interest in STEM fields. By engaging with STEM, Cub Scouts learn that science and technology can be both educational and fun, paving the way for future learning and potential careers in these exciting disciplines.
